As a parent dropping off their child at college, I can’t help but wonder if I raised them well. I’ve always tried to balance fun and discipline, but was it enough?

It’s not just me; parents for generations have worried about their parenting. But according to the concept of the "good enough mother," striving for perfection can be harmful.

My husband and I tried to strike a balance, letting go of preconceived notions and listening to our son’s needs. We may not have met every expectation, but we provided a safe space and instilled values.

We also realized the importance of letting go, allowing him to make his own decisions and learn from mistakes.

Every parent makes mistakes, but by asking if we were enough, we acknowledge our efforts to raise our children as best we could. And if we’re asking, it’s likely we were exactly what our child needed.

In my case, signs point to yes. My son is now a young adult, navigating college life with the tools and values we gave him.
