Mason Street bridge options will be presented to the public soon. Here’s what to know

GREEN BAY — Name a concern about the Mason Street bridge: going 15, 20 over the 35 mph limit, aggressive merging from the Ashland Avenue on-ramp, little pedestrian access.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation probably heard it in 2023 during the first public involvement meeting to determine what a new over-water roadway could look like.

WisDOT enmeshed the public comments with analysis of how the most-trafficked downtown bridge interacts with the wider city and came up with four designs for a new corridor that the department will present to the public on Sept. 25 at the Neville Public Museum . The forum from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the second time interested stakeholders will be encouraged to voice concerns, questions and comments to WisDOT to tailor the future thruway to the needs of the public.

“And we welcome, if people have any other ideas, to bring them to the meeting,” said Bryan Lipke, the professional engineer leading the project.

His laptop was crowded with Mason Street-relevant tabs. It still skipped along smoothly, ready and hungry for more.
