Bakersfield schools educate on National Voter Registration Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It’s National Voter Registration Day, and Cal State Bakersfield and Bakersfield College worked to get young voters registered.

“Students are the future of the country and so they are gonna need to be caring about what’s happening around them, it’s just about creating informed students,” said Anthonio Reyes, VP of legislative affairs with CSUB.

High school seniors get a ‘bite of reality’ before heading into the real world

Anthonio Reyes helps run CSUB’s booth complete with spinning a wheel to answer questions to win popsicles and helps students get registered this election year.

Reyes said, “So far we’ve had a little over 200 students, I’m hopeful that we can up to 500 by the end of the day.”

At Bakersfield College, the student government had a booth at the farmer’s market asking anyone in line if they were registered.

Elise Miller, a member of BC’s student government helped run the booth, “Their vote really matters and it really does have power. If students want to see a change, they need to be the ones to make that change.”
