Longtime West Allis alderman Vince Vitale remembered for his commitment to the community

A longtime former alderman who served the city of West Allis for more than three decades has died, the city of West Allis announced Tuesday.

Former First District Alderman Vincent Vitale retired in April after 36 years of service to the city, according to a news release from the city. He died Sept. 14 at the age of 76.

“For decades, Vince graciously dedicated himself to West Allis,” West Allis Mayor Dan Devine said in the release. “He served with distinction, and through his skills and commitment, made the City a more developed and enriching place to live, work and visit.”

Born on April 13, 1948, in Balestrate, Sicily, Vitale began his career as a barber at the age of 14, according to his obituary .

He opened his own barbershop in his hometown before immigrating to the United States in 1966. He continued his passion for barbering and opened Vince Vitale Barbershop in West Allis, serving the community until 2008.

He also worked at an assembly job at Ampco Metal and in inventory at Unit Drop Forge.
