Minnesota Culinary Treasures: Try These James Beard Award Semifinalists (Plus the 2024 Winner!)

Minnesota may not be known for Michelin stars, but is better known for cold winters and hundreds of lakes. However, some restaurants deserve a mention, even though there isn’t a Michelin guide for the state. So, no Michelin Guide, no Michelin stars. What started as a way to sell more tires has grown into a guide for the best hotel and restaurant experiences in the world. Michelin stars are among the most coveted ratings they can receive.

Yet, even if your area doesn’t have a Michelin Guide, other awards recognize excellent food and chefs. In North America, the James Beard Foundation awards restaurants and chefs in several categories, including Best Chef and Best New Restaurant. In our search for Minnesota restaurants with Michelin stars, we discovered several James Beard Foundation award semifinalists and a winner for 2024.

Prices vary from $6 to $32 per plate, with three protein choices, vegetable dishes, and charcuterie available. Because of the ever-changing menu items, their website doesn’t give up much in details.
