Onondaga DA finds Doorley’s abusive behavior doesn’t warrant further criminal charges

While Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley was profane and abusive in her controversial viral interaction with a Webster police officer, a decision to prosecute her for further crimes would be wrongheaded, a fellow New York prosecutor has determined.

In a nine-page report, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick determined that he, if presented the case, would “decline to authorize the filing of any additional charges against DA Sandra Doorley and frankly I cannot remotely imagine an ethical and competent prosecutor determining otherwise.”

Fitzpatrick, who acknowledges he is a friend of Doorley’s, was asked by state Supreme Court Justice William Taylor to review the facts of Doorley’s April speeding offense and subsequent angry rant when stopped by a Webster police officer. Fitzpatrick wrote that his friendship played no role in his determination.

Taylor is the administrative judge for the regional judicial district.

Were there a decision to charge Doorley with further crimes, a special prosecutor still would need to be appointed. Fitzpatrick was not acting in that role. His report, however, details why he thinks any further prosecution would be misguided and likely unsuccessful.
