Docs: Indianapolis man killed after altercation surrounding owed money

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been arrested on murder charges after he reportedly shot and killed 57-year-old Michael Alvin Edwards after Edwards reportedly owed him money.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday in Marion County, 32-year-old Thomas Mason Jr. was arrested on murder charges on Monday in relation to the shooting on Aug. 29.

Edwards was found at around 8:12 p.m. on Aug. 29 after officers were called to the 3400 block of N. Leland Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Edwards, who was shot inside a green truck. Edwards was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

On the evening of the shooting, officers conducted a search of the vehicle that Edwards was found in, as well as a nearby house on North Leland Avenue. After speaking with witnesses, they found that two SUVs were seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting.
