Mother’s Brewing Company founder announces run for Springfield mayor in 2025

With a plethora of public service experiences, founder of Mother’s Brewing Company Jeff Schrag is running for Springfield mayor in the April election. The serial entrepreneur wants to improve livability and establish clear communication between the city and the community.

Schrag is the first to officially announce his bid for the position ahead of the April 8, 2025, election to succeed Mayor Ken McClure, who has held the office for the past eight years. Councilman Abe McGull told the News-Leader in May he was “seriously considering” a run for mayor.

“I’m not launching a political career. I’m launching a campaign for mayor, and I have no desire to do anything else,” Schrag said. “This is a destination for me.”

The group came up with the proposal for the question that will appear on the November ballot , splitting the tax between a 1/4-cent, no-sunset tax for public safety and a 1/2-cent, 10-year-sunset tax for supporting the comprehensive plan.
