Puppy with ‘Ted Lasso’-themed name found ‘abandoned’ at soccer field. He needs a home

A playful puppy was found “abandoned at a soccer field” — and now has a “Ted Lasso”-themed name.

Roy Kent the dog is up for adoption after he was rescued from a park, according to a North Carolina animal organization.

“He was microchipped, but his previous owners apparently moved to Florida and left him behind,” Peak Lab Rescue wrote Sept. 17 on Facebook. “We think you will agree that this sweet fella deserves better! Roy is ready to win you over with his stunning good looks and affectionate personality.”

The pup needs a new home after he was found as a stray in Cary, west of Raleigh. The person “caught up to him” near soccer fields and started calling him Roy Kent, an angry character on the soccer-themed TV show “Ted Lasso,” according to details the rescue shared with McClatchy News via email.

“Unlike my namesake Roy Kent, my manners are pretty good,” the shelter said in an adoption profile written from the dog’s perspective. “I’m fully house trained and good on a leash. I love to play and cuddle.”
