Man steals $27K ring at SI Macy’s after asking to try it on

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police on Wednesday released a photo of a man accused of asking to try on a ring worth over $27,000 from a Staten Island Macy’s over the weekend then stealing it.

It happened at approximately 2:24 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, when the thief entered the Macy’s inside of the Staten Island Mall located at 2655 Richmond Ave. in New Springville, authorities said.

According to officials, the suspect asked to see a ring valued at approximately $27,500. When a store employee placed the ring on the counter, the man took the ring and fled the location on foot, traveling southbound on Platinum Avenue.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black baseball cap with a graphic and black sneakers.
