Double murder at Mackenzie Park was caught on surveillance video

LUBBOCK, Texas — A shooting that killed two people and a dog at Mackenzie Park was captured on surveillance video, court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Tuesday revealed. Court records stated the video showed what happened before, during and after the shooting.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Cesar E. Chavez Drive around 8:18 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, for reports of shots fired. Two people and a dog were found on the ground with gunshot wounds. Police said it was an isolated incident.

A man, identified as Angel Aleman, 55, was found dead, along with his dog named Monster. A woman, Lydia Hernandez, 47, was found alive and breathing, court documents stated. Hernandez was rushed to the hospital by EMS, where she was pronounced deceased.

A probable cause affidavit said witnesses were interviewed by law enforcement. A witness reported seeing two vehicles leave the area after the gunfire stopped. One vehicle was a white SUV, and one was a small gray SUV, court records stated. A witness also saw a man with a slender build run into the park after the shooting.
