Lansing police clarify that shooting victims in Westside Neighborhood were teens

LANSING — The two people shot late Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Westside Neighborhood were 16-year-old teen boys, Lansing police clarified Wednesday morning.

Police on Tuesday said two men were shot just across the street from Riddle Elementary School.

Lansing police responded the shooting at Riddle and West Allegan streets in the city after 3 p.m., and found two men with gunshot wounds, Lansing Police Public Relations Director Jordan Gulkis said Tuesday. Both were transported to an area hospital by the Lansing Fire Department, she added.

The shooting scene is directly east of Riddle Elementary School.

The conditions of the shooting victims was not released by police Tuesday, and no update was provided Wednesday morning once police clarified those shot were teens. Gulkis did not release the hometowns of the victims.

Gulkis on Tuesday said no one was in custody in connection with the shooting; she did not say whether that had changed as of Wednesday morning.

Numerous police officers were at the scene Tuesday afternoon, and a portion of Riddle Street between Chelsea Avenue and West Allegan was taped off shortly before 4 p.m. What appeared to be personal items were lying in the street inside the police tape.
