(COLORADO SPRINGS) — School District 11 (D11) said the oldest middle school in the district will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary and to honor the milestone it will hold a special event on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

D11 said North Middle School was founded on Sept. 29, 1924, and has been a pillar of the downtown community for a century, being a beacon of educational excellence.

The event is open to the community and takes place on Tuesday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at North Middle School located at 612 East Yampa Street. The event will have food options from Big Papa’s Grill, Stan’s Funnel Cakes, and Chick-Fil-A on site and live music from the North Orchestra and Band, a DJ, lawn games, and a t-shirt tie-dye station.

According to D11, classrooms will be decorated into living exhibits of the school’s 100-year history. The event will feature interview videos from alumni, including one from a North graduate from the class of 1944. Attendees will also get a rare look inside the school’s basement, which will showcase the original rock wall and historic furnace.
