Man arrested after firing shots, overnight ‘manhunt’ in Eaton County

CHARLOTTE – A man sought by police after a confrontation that involved firing shots near bystanders was arrested Wednesday by Eaton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, police said.

A “manhunt” that began shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday ended about 2 p.m. Wednesday when police found the suspect hiding in a recreational vehicle in the 8000 block of Bellevue Highway south of Eaton Rapids, the sheriff’s office said in a release.

The man, whose name, age and hometown were not released, was arrested without incident according to the release.

The incident that sparked the search began in the 7000 block of Sherman Road, several miles west of where the man was arrested, after the sheriff’s office said the man had a confrontation with another man at a residence. The suspect “threatened a male at the residence and fired several shots near adults and children” before he fled on a motorcycle.

While deputies search for the man and the motorcycle, the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office authorized several felony charges and an arrest warrant. Those charges were not released by the sheriff’s office Wednesday evening.
