Colorado agency proposes 24-hour kiosks for vehicle emissions testing

DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Motor Vehicle Emissions Division is proposing self-service kiosks for emissions testing, which could reduce wait times for drivers.

FOX31 reported in April that the American Lung Association ranked the Denver metro area sixth in the nation for poor air quality . While pollution and wildfires are major factors, auto emissions play a role as well.

Colorado ranks near the top among US states with poor air quality

Proposed regulatory changes would impact owners of gas-powered vehicles in the Front Range area including all or portions of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties. Self-service kiosks for on-board diagnostics emissions tests would be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at several locations.

FOX31 spoke with drivers who said they welcome any proposal that would make the process easier.

“That would be fantastic it would save a lot of time,” said Marcio Borges.
