Driver rescued following multi-vehicle crash on I-85S

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A driver was freed from their vehicle after being entrapped in a crash early Thursday morning on Interstate 85.

The Powdersville Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched before 4 a.m. to mile marker 39 in the southbound lanes for a multi-vehicle crash with entrapment.

First responders learned that a tow truck stopped to assist a disabled BMW in the roadway but was hit by another vehicle minutes later. The driver of the vehicle was pinned against the steering column but was able to be freed quickly according to firefighters.

No other injuries were reported.

Officials said all southbound lanes were shut down for close to an hour.

The roadway was reopened at 5 a.m.
