MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Leaders with an environmental justice organization that focuses on injustices faced by Black and brown communities are preparing to host a community meeting in Prichard.

According to a press release from We Matter Community Association , the community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at Blount High School.
MEETING LOCATION:
Organizers say the meeting is an opportunity to address the water crisis in black communities from across the country and how those situations compare to what is happening in Prichard.
Here’s what is happening in Prichard
- The Alabama Department of Environment Management gave over $5 million in funding to the Prichard Water and Sewer System to address what they say are “serious problems plaguing the system.”
- Southern Environment, spoke with some residents in Prichard who said they have been buying water for years instead of using it from the tap as “you get sick” otherwise.
