Generation ROC: Local scout designs Star Wars robots for charity

ROCHESTER, N.Y. ( WROC ) — Bringing a galaxy far, far away right here to the Flower City. Leora Blum is a tinkerer—building their own droids in true Skywalker style.

“My family has kind of just been, like, Star Wars all of my life. I was kind of just born into it. I’ve had, like, a Jawa costume, a TIE pilot costume for ages, my dad is a storm trooper and he’s got a Chewbacca costume. We do a lot of Star Wars stuff,” Leora explains.

Leora has been a member of their high school robotics club for the last three years. As a member of Scouting America and when the time came to pick a project to better the community, Leora decided to built an amazingly realistic pit droid and moving Jawa robots for fans to take pictures with at the Flower City Comic Con.

“A lot of people think that the pit droid is pretty wild, you know? It moves its head, its arms, it can wave at you, so I like robots! Robots are neat, so seeing it all come together from just seeing all the separated, 3D printed parts in the beginning, it’s cool to see it all completed,” she says.
