AAA Texas: Gas prices down 18.9% from 2023

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Drivers in Texas saw a decrease in gas prices this week with an average of $2.78/gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday, which is a 2-cent decrease compared to last week and 65 cents less compared to this day last year, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in Amarillo were paying $2.66/gallon, a 7-cent decrease compared to last week and a $1.02 decrease compared to this day last year. AAA Texas reported that drivers in the El Paso metro area were paying the most on average at $3.08/gallon and drivers in Lubbock were paying the least on average at $2.58/gallon.

Nationally, the average price per gallon was $3.22/gallon on Thursday, marking a 2-cent decrease compared to last week and 66 cents less compared to this day last year.

According to AAA Texas officials, gas demand fell to a six-week low while total domestic gasoline stocks increased. Officials noted that West Texas Intermediate crude remains at $70 per barrel, which is 19% lower than the 2024 high price of $86.91 reached in April.
