These cats are working it

Good morning, I’m Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing.

There’s been a lot of talk about cats lately, though not exactly for the best reasons.

While felines have become part of the political discourse, what’s happening here in Rhode Island is a little more heartwarming, even if one of them has a taste for blood.

As the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has found more so-called street cats in their care, the organization has found a way to place them in more homes through its working cat program.

The Journal’s Jack Perry spoke with RISPCA officials and the owners of some of the working cats to learn more about the program and just where these cats are finding new homes.

• Rhode Island House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi is heading to Congress next week.
