‘Living their best lives’: Three hard-to-place cats find happy homes

Ratatat isn’t the only cat “living his best” life after finding a home through the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ working cats program.

The program has placed hundreds of cats since it started in 2012, and all have worked out, according to Cathy Simonini, a certified feline training and behavior specialist and creator of the program.

“Nobody has ever asked us to take the cats back. If anything, they are usually so happy that they want to add another working cat,” Simonini says. “When people adopt a working cat, we strive to set them up for success by providing guidance on creating an appropriate space and understanding the necessary acclimation period to help ensure that cat stays and thrives.”

What changed her? “Patience,” Vinciguerra says.
