Data released Tuesday by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli finds that local sales tax collections in the state increased by 3.8% in August compared to the same month last year. Overall, local collections totaled $1.85 billion for the month, which is up $68 million year over year. DiNapoli says, “While this growth is certainly encouraging, local officials must keep in mind sales tax revenues can be volatile and budget cautiously.”
