Nighttime construction coming to sections of Commercial Street in south Salem

Two sections of Commercial Street in south Salem are set to be repaved in the coming weeks, causing possible nighttime delays.

To minimize traffic disruptions, crews will work at night.

Drivers on Hilfiker Lane SE at Commercial Street SE may experience travel disruption by paving work that will start Thursday night from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Work will continue on Sunday night from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Deactivation of the temporary traffic signal and activation of the new traffic signal will take place on Wednesday from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Asphalt pavement striping will finish the project on Sept. 30 from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Further south, overnight repaving will begin Sunday until Oct. 13 on Commercial Street from Fabry Road SE to Interstate 5.

During the overnight hours, flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic. City officials said drivers should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes if possible.

The project is funded by the voter-approved 2022 Safety and Livability Bond. City officials said it includes replacing non-compliant Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramps and resurfacing the roadway in a growing area of south Salem.
