Shohei Ohtani Makes History with 50/50 Season
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has become the first player ever to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
Ohtani reached the milestone with a seventh-inning home run against the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon. He also stole two bases earlier in the game, bringing his season total to 51.
The 30-year-old is just two home runs away from making history. He has a .287 batting average, a .978 OPS, and 110 RBIs this season.
Ohtani’s historic achievement comes after he underwent Tommy John surgery and signed a $700 million contract with the Dodgers. He has the chance to break the home run record in front of the home crowd during the team’s upcoming homestand.
