Mucarsel-Powell Slams Scott’s Silence on Anti-Haitian Statements

MIAMI, FL — As inflammatory rhetoric targeting Haitian migrants escalates among certain Republican figures, former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell has sharply criticized Senator Rick Scott for his refusal to condemn these attacks. The controversy centers around recent comments made by former President Donald Trump and other GOP members, spreading unfounded and racially charged allegations about Haitian migrants in the U.S. Despite being pressed on the issue, Scott has remained noncommittal, a stance Mucarsel-Powell claims is both dangerous and irresponsible.

“Rick Scott should be ashamed of himself,” Mucarsel-Powell said in a statement released on Thursday. “Instead of addressing the ongoing crisis in Haiti and working to stop the smuggling of weapons out of our ports, Rick Scott is spreading disinformation with these baseless, hateful, and racist attacks on Haitian immigrants.” Her comments come as Florida’s Haitian-American community faces increased scrutiny and hostility fueled by misinformation and xenophobic rhetoric from right-wing extremists.
