Neighbor dispute and shooting leads to standoff in Walled Lake, gunman now in custody

WALLED LAKE (WWJ) — A Walled Lake man is in police custody after a shooting and police standoff Friday morning.

WWJ’s Charlie Langton was on the scene, Friday morning, at a condominium complex where police officers and SWAT teams responded Friday morning.

Early information is that multiple shots were fired at around 5 a.m. during some kind of dispute between neighbors, at the Dover Hill Condominiums on Decker Rd., just north of Maple Rd.

“A man barricaded himself in his condo with his wife and 3-year-old child after shooting his neighbor in the leg over some kind of minor dispute,” Langton said.

The man shot in the leg was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He is expected to be OK.

Langton said the shooter surrendered to police after a standoff that last nearly four hours. He came out of his home, was was arrested.

The child was unharmed, and is in the care of family members.

Walled Lake Police Chief Paul Shakinas thanked all the local law enforcement agencies that assisted in resolving this situation.
