At that same time, a 39-year-old man driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee exited at Gilman Drive and transitioned to the eastbound right lane of 3100 La Jolla Village Drive. Police said the driver of the Jeep “made an unsafe lane change” and sideswiped the motorcyclist.
The rider then rear-ended a third vehicle, a Toyota Highlander driven by a 77-year-old man, before coming to a stop, authorities explained further.
The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with an open fracture to his right knee and right femur. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Traffic Division officers responded to the scene and are investigating the collision. Police said DUI is not considered a factor in this crash.
