Kalamazoo pays $14K to Black man to settle ‘wrongful arrest’ suit

KALAMAZOO, MI – Four-and-a-half years after Marcus Johnson was arrested and charged with two felony resisting charges, the city of Kalamazoo has agreed to pay him $14,000. The settlement, Johnson said, compensates him for losing his dogs after what he had called an unlawful arrest in 2020. Both his dogs were euthanized prior to Johnson getting them back, he said.
