Beloved former Bay Area park ranger Betty Reid Soskin turns 103

( KRON ) — Beloved former Bay Area park ranger Betty Reid Soskin is turning 103 and a celebration is planned at the middle school named after her. Soskin will be honored on Friday, Sept. 20 with an intimate celebration in the campus library at Betty Reid Soskin Middle School in El Sobrante.

The event will feature a preview of a documentary film about Soskin’s life, featuring “never-before-seen footage of her hidden life as a singer/songwriter, and her journey to re-explore her music sixty years later,” according to the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

The documentary will also showcase Soskin’s social justice contributions and her “legacy as the oldest active National Park Ranger” with the National Park Service.

Attendance to the event is by invitation only.
