Sources: University of Texas police chief Eve Stephens pressured to resign Friday by school official

University of Texas police chief Eve Stephens was pressured into resigning Friday morning or face termination, two sources told A to Z Sports.

Shane Streepy was immediately promoted to full-time chief by Amanda Cochran-McCall, UT’s vice president for legal affairs and general counsel who oversees the campus police department.

It’s not immediately known why Stephens was forced out; she did not return calls or texts from A to Z Sports. Stephens was a highly decorated Austin Police Department employee who started as a patrol officer and worked her way up to commander. She was sworn in as UTPD’s sixth chief on July 5, 2023.

Information regarding Stephens’ bio was removed from the university’s website shortly after A to Z Sports began asking about her status.

A university spokesman declined to comment. Historically, UT officials do not comment on personnel matters.

In a statement, UT President Jay Hartzell praised Streepy’s work history with APD, where he led several specialized units in 21 years of service.
