ECHO facility completes $1.3 million in renovations for homeless veterans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — After two years of waiting and more than a million dollars, renovations for a facility that houses homeless veterans are completed.

Eastern Carolina Housing Organization served more than 3,000 people last year across 16 counties in the Carolinas.

Nardmoor is a multifamily facility and transition home for homeless veterans located on the corner of Hawthorne Lane and 65th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.

The building currently houses 40 veterans but a total of almost 600 have went through the program and now have permanent housing.

Vietnam Army Veteran Daniel Brunson says he’s called Nardmoor home for the last three months.

“It’s a home away from home to get a better grip on life so you can make it through life,” he said.

Brunson said he was experiencing challenges when a Georgetown Commander recommended this transition home.

“They treat you like you’re at home. They take care of you, and all you have to do is follow the rules and regulations and everything will be alright,” Brunson said. “This program here starts your life all over again, and to me, it’s wonderful.”
