Downtowners duck for cover as shots fired on Front Street

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating a shooting near a dog park and movie theater in downtown Memphis Friday night that sent one person to the hospital.

Pet owners at the dog park at the corner of South Front Street and GE Patterson said they ducked for cover when a man dressed in all black jumped out of a white sedan with an AK-47-style weapon and opened fire.

A WREG news crew was nearby and heard seven to 10 shots. Several spent shell cases could be spotted in the street and sidewalk next to the dog park. It appeared bullets also hit the side of the Malco Powerhouse Cinema across the street.
