Bucs’ Coen Reveals Chris Godwin’s Approach Amid Receiver’s Hot Start

Baker Mayfield has made a return to his old form, touting confidence and swagger under center. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback is off to a considerably better start to the season, seemingly more comfortable and poised in his role.

But a part in his progress in Tampa Bay has stemmed from the receivers flanked beside him, namely Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Godwin, often though of second when the dynamic duo comes to mind, has proven the catalyst for this Bucs offense through two games. The star receiver has simultaneously been the team’s leading receiver, big play threat and steady force on third downs.

That is not to say those attributes have not existed in years prior, but Godwin has undoubtedly shined bright early through this campaign. Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen has seen a supremely engaged version of him through the course of this season, making Godwin’s start “no surprise.”

“Whenever an offensive coach gets up and speaks… Chris Godwin’s taking notes,” Coen said Thursday. “It’s no surprise, it’s kind of what we expected…of him, I think his expectations are there… and it’s really good to see because of how good a person how much of a pro he is.”
