Amarillo police arrest 4 teens in investigation of drive-by shootings

Four suspects, including three juveniles, were arrested in connection to a string of recent drive-by shootings, the Amarillo Police Department announced Friday. Multiple guns, drugs, a stolen vehicle and other items were recovered during officers’ searches of the area as part of the investigation.

Amarillo police officers from the Proactive Criminal Enforcement Unit (PACE), Neighborhood Police Officer Unit (NPO) and other divisions within APD directed an investigation into three recent drive-by shootings, according to a community update.

“From knowledge obtained by School Resource Officers, a hangout location in the 300 block of North Lincoln and vehicle of local gang members were identified. PACE officers spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Western Plaza Drive During the stop, officers observed shell casings from multiple guns in the vehicle.”

APD and the Texas Department of Public Safety continued surveillance at the hangout location, police said. Officers contacted several juvenile male individuals at that location, including a 17-year-old who was stopped on foot with a backpack that had multiple guns, methamphetamine and THC cartridges inside, according to police.
