From summertime heat to cooler fall weather

Hi everyone!

Our Friday afternoon is turning out to be another hot day with temperatures back in the 90’s and low 100’s. Amarillo should top out near 96. For this evening however, widely separated showers and thunderstorms will roll northeast across our western and northern counties. Amarillo will be on the edge of any convection tonight. In saying this, stay weather aware if a storm is near your location, and seek shelter until it passes by. Lightning is always a concern.

Tomorrow could turn out to be wet with numerous showers and thunderstorms, as a cold front moves in from the north. Severe weather is not expected, per se, but be aware of sudden downburst winds, lightning, pockets of small hail, and brief heavy downpours.

Regarding temperatures, the 80’s and low 90’s will continue through tomorrow, followed by the blustery and cool 70’s on Sunday (the first day of autumn)!
