DPD: Man charged with mischief after hitting a patrol car

DECATUR, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Decatur Police Department (DPD) says a man was arrested Wednesday after police say he hit a patrol car with his vehicle.

A department spokesperson said Michael Vasquez, 29, was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief after an altercation with police led to him hitting a patrol car.

DPD said on Wednesday officer responded to a call of a person acting erratically in the 500 block of 14th Street SE.

According to police, upon arrival offices located the reported person, now identified as Vasquez, in a vehicle. While officers were making contact, DPD said Vasquez “used his vehicle to strike a patrol unit.”

DPD said the damage caused in the incident was determined to cost over $2,500.

The department said after officers disabled Vasquez’s vehicle there was a brief altercation before he was taken into custody and taken to the Morgan County Jail. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
