Newton Juvenile Apprehended for School Shooting Threat

A Newton male juvenile is being held at Central Iowa Detention in Eldora for allegedly making a school shooting threat yesterday. At approximately 4:43pm, Newton Police say officers were notified of a juvenile male threatening a shooting at a school and shooting another student at their residence. Lt. Dillon Lavely says after several interviews were conducted, the juvenile male was located and taken into custody without incident. The juvenile is charged with Threat of Terrorism, a Class D Felony, and Harassment 1st Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. This is the second Newton juvenile arrested for a potential school shooting threat this week. On Wednesday night, Newton Police charged another juvenile with Threat of Terrorism and 1st Degree Harassment. That potential threat involved multiple reports of a Newton posting on Facebook that he was going to shoot up every school the next day. Newton Officers also took that juvenile into custody without issue, but did find guns in the juvenile’s home.
