Small Oregon city nixes council election after fallout from firing police chief

A mix-up on the applications for prospective city councilors in Gervais means voters in the tiny town north of Salem won’t be staffing up City Hall in November. Officials announced earlier this month they were scotching the election after it became clear that there was no way to determine which candidates were running for two- versus four-year positions, and a Secretary of State deadline to rectify the issue had already passed.
