1 dead after traffic collision in southwest Bakersfield: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a fatal wreck near New Stine Road Saturday afternoon.

Just after 12:50 p.m., police officers responded to the 200 block of New Stine Road for reports of a vehicle rollover, according to Sgt. Andrew Tipton, with the Bakersfield Police Department. One occupant was found suffering from major injuries. The involved vehicle was a black SUV and appeared burned after colliding with a tree, according to a 17 News photographer on scene.

Bakersfield Police Department Sgt. Rex Davenport confirmed with 17 News the driver was pronounced dead on scene after life-saving measures were performed.

The Bakersfield Fire Department was also on scene.
