(Inside California Politics) — California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara joined Inside California Politics co-host Nikki Laurenzo to discuss California’s insurance crisis.
Lara details his plan to reform California’s insurance market and get insurers to return to doing normal business in California.
“I own this issue now… We are in a much better place, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.” said Lara when asked why it has taken so long for his department to tackle the home owner’s insurance crisis.
Lara also discusses why he does not believe there needs to be a special session to address the issue, saying “This is a significant problem, but I have all the statutory authority to make these changes under my purview now.”
He says he would like to work with the legislature in 2025 on programs to help consumers pay for the property mitigation they need.
“I don’t want to let this crisis go by without being able to get some real reforms done and some good programs that are going to help consumers mitigate their home and save their lives.”
