‘Girls in Aviation Day’ celebrated at North Las Vegas Airport

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Women in Aviation International’s Las Vegas chapter welcomed hundreds of girls to the North Las Vegas Airport to celebrate Girls in Aviation Day.

From propeller planes to fighter jets to air traffic control and beyond. Saturday’s event is all about inspiring girls to get in the sky.

For pilots like Stephanie Goetz, who flies a one-of-a-kind pink jet, it’s an opportunity to show girls they can be fabulous and fierce at the same time.

“It’s a very special club to be a part of. But it’s this symbol also of that you can be strong and feminine. You don’t have to just be strong or just be feminine. Those things can work together,” Goetz said.

Pilots weren’t the only women teaching kids about what they do, police officers were there, and bomb squads were showing off their tech. A message that was shared among all of them, including air force pilot Kristen Hollrith — you can do whatever you set your mind to.

“Young girls being able to see that firsthand, that we’re out here doing it is just absolutely phenomenal for their growth and what they’re going to be able to do,” Hollrith said.
