Amarillo Parks and Recreation to celebrate loved ones at ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ event

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Parks and Recreation will host a “Dia De Los Muertos” or “Day of the Dead” event to honor loved ones on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 6 p.m.

According to officials, the celebration will host traditional dances, games, intricate altars, music, a Catrinas contest and food trucks from local vendors.

Dia De Los Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated on Nov. 1-2. where families honor their loved ones and help keep the memory of the dead alive. People have ofrendas or altars with photos of their families and some will leave out their loved one’s favorite food.

Officials note participants who plan to attend the event are asked to bring a disposable photo of a loved one to place on an altar and honor their memory.

The event will be at the Sam Houston Park located at 4101 Line Ave and will be free to the public.
