Cal Fire Employee Arrested, Accused of Arson

Additional Coverage:

A California firefighter, 38-year-old Robert Hernandez, has been arrested for allegedly setting multiple fires while off duty.

Hernandez, a fire apparatus engineer, was taken into custody at the Howard Forest Fire Station. He is accused of starting five fires, totaling less than an acre in damage.

CAL FIRE Director Joe Tyler expressed dismay over the accusations, emphasizing that such actions undermine the efforts of the organization’s 12,000 members.

Hernandez is being investigated in connection with four specific fires in August and September.

Authorities did not provide information about Hernandez’s attorney. He is expected to be charged with arson to forest land and booked into Sonoma County Jail.
