Dozens evacuated after gas main rupture in the Bronx: FDNY

BEDFORD PARK, The Bronx (PIX11) — Emergency crews evacuated multiple businesses and homes in a Bronx neighborhood because of a ruptured gas main on Sunday morning, a representative for the fire department said.

Fumes and the odor of gas covered the area near 379 Bedford Park Boulevard in the Bronx around 9:40 a.m., fire officials say.

Dozens of emergency personnel and crews from Con Edison responded to the scene to investigate. Police also warned against travel in the area.

“Due to a gas leak, please avoid the area around Bedford Park Blvd & Webster Ave in The Bronx. There is an NYPD and Con Edison presence. Traffic delays are expected in the surrounding area,” a representative for the agency posted on social media .

The cause of the gas main rupture is still under investigation but no injuries have been reported.
