Chiefs’ Defense Comes Up Big in 22-17 Road Win Over Falcons

The Chiefs (2-0) hit the road for the first time this season to meet the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 as they continue their quest for a third straight Super Bowl. The Falcons (1-1) hope to stave off a 1-2 start to the season.

The Falcons got off to a fast start after taking the ball first to start the game and marched 70 yards in seven plays and ended the drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to a wide-open Drake London for an early 7-0 lead.

The Chiefs took their first possession of the game and also moved the ball with relative ease, but the drive ended much differently. On a 2nd and 8 from the Atlanta 14-yard line, Mahomes threw into the end zone for an open Noah Gray. But out of nowhere came a flying Justin Simmons to intercept Mahomes in the end zone for a touchback.

It’s the fourth straight game Simmons has picked off Mahomes and the sixth time overall.

But the Chiefs’ defense held the Falcons’ offense to a 5-and-out this time as Atlanta punted the ball on the final play of the first quarter.
