Colorado ski resorts see first snow of the season

DENVER (KDVR) – The high country experienced its first dusting of snow for the season, with several ski areas reporting flakes and even some snow accumulation.

A storm system swept through the state over the weekend , with snow falling at higher elevations and rain at the lower elevations.

The resorts that saw snow included Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Loveland Ski Area, Vail Ski Resort, Breckenridge Ski Resort and Keystone Ski Resort.

Most of the ski areas only saw a dusting on their slopes Loveland Ski Area received three inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Sunday marked the fall equinox, which is the first day of astronomical fall. However, meteorological fall, which is based off of temperatures and climate, started on Sept. 1.

The state’s ski areas were not the only places that saw snow over the weekend.

Rocky Mountain National Park’s Trail Ridge Road was closed temporarily on Sunday morning for the winter conditions, with Old River Road still closed as of Sunday afternoon.
