Sunday Mass honors local first responders

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Sunday – a prayer for local heroes, a token of gratitude and appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to serving others in our community.

Sunday is known for bringing folks together in the name of faith. The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester took the time Sept. 22 to honor local first responders – inviting them and their families to join the community and faith leaders for a special Sunday mass in their honor.

The First Responders Mass is an annual endeavor. Bishop Salvatore R. Matano celebrated the day by praying for the safety of Rochester-area first responders.

Law enforcement officers, EMTs, firefighters and other first responders risk their lives daily, often responding to “unknowns.” In recent years, work to bridge the gap between community and law enforcement has become more prevalent to address the lack of trust becoming more widespread among the general public.
