“I never thought we’d be able to tour it”: Michigan man restores historical Frank Lloyd Wright home

OKEMOS, Mich. (WLNS) — A Michigan man is allowing tours at his newly-purchased Frank Lloyd Wright home.

The Goetsch-Winckler home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, an American architect and designer in 1940.

The home is now owned by Nate Meyer in Okemos, Michigan and open to tours.

DeAndra Beck, who has lived in Okemos since 2014, says she contacted the current owner through Facebook.

“I never thought we’d be able to tour it,” says Beck.

She says for many years she would visit the home and peak on the inside from outside the home, and never got the opportunity to tour the home until now.

“And imagine my surprise and delight when I found out that Okemos, Michigan was the place where Frank Llyod Wright had intended to build what he called a Usonian community,” said Beck.

Dory Azar, an architect in Ontario, Canada, says he heard about the home while visiting a museum in the area.

He says he took a photo of the home and contacted the owners to set up a tour.

“Anybody should be able to walk through that home and really kinda feel that connection to the landscape and to the materials of the home,” said Azar. “It’s just a really special place.”
