Banged-up Lions grateful for early bye week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — When the schedule was announced, plenty of Lions fans bemoaned the team’s early Week 5 bye . Now, some may have changed their tune.

The Lions held on for a 20-13 win over the Cardinals Sunday but are leaving Arizona with a long list of injuries.

The defense appears to be the hardest hit. Linebacker Derrick Barnes suffered a knee injury and had to be carted back to the locker room, while defensive tackle Alim McNeill went down with a shoulder injury. Neither returned to the game.

“I will know more (Monday) at some point,” head coach Dan Campbell said in his post-game press conference . “Both of them have injuries. I can’t say that they are not going to be long-term. I don’t feel like it is something that we are worried about season-ending. We will know a lot more tomorrow on those things when we are able to get home and check it out.”

Safety Brian Branch also suffered a neck injury late in the game and was later put in the concussion protocol after an awkward hit on Cardinals tight end Trey McBride.
