COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Monday morning! The day ahead will feature plenty of sunshine throughout the morning with building clouds through the afternoon as high temperatures warm into the mid 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s.
A quiet start to the week as the weather pattern remains summer-like with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures under high pressure; however, major changes are coming for the rest of the week.
We are keeping an eye on two major weather features that will likely be dependent on one another heading into the rest of the week. As high pressure becomes weaker an advancing cold front starts to approach from the west. We are also watching a developing tropical system in the western Caribbean. This system is likely to develop into a hurricane within 36-48 hours.
All guidance points towards a Florida Panhandle landfall and moving inland across Alabama and Georgia. However, if the advancing front is early that track could be pushed more eastward. But as of now, we will likely start to see impacts late Wednesday and Thursday as the storm pushes inland.
